Meet the SoCrowd Team: Cam Robinson

Today we get to know our Head of Sales, Cam Robinson and learn his advice for organisations looking to buy a social media management tool, what he sees as the biggest opportunities for brands using social today, and what he gets up to outside work!

What does your typical working day look like?

I’ll generally get into the office at about 9am and I’ll start my day by checking what demos I have coming up and what I need to prepare.

Then I like to catch up with my team to discuss what we’re all working on that day and work through any challenges or concerns they have.

After that I’m mostly on demos or calls for the rest of the day, sharing use cases of how our customers benefit from SoCrowd, ideas for achieving more with social media, and generally helping people to figure out whether SoCrowd is the right social media management tool for them.

What’s the best part of your day?

When I finish presenting a demo of our software for a customer and they’re really excited to tell me all of the problems it will solve for them.

That’s when I know that I’ve done my job right and it’s such a good feeling knowing I’ve been able to help them.

What do you think is the greatest challenge for social media managers in 2019?

I think that in order to really use social media to its full potential, marketing, customer service, and management all need to be aligned and work collaboratively which can be really difficult for larger organisations.

The challenge is co-ordinating lots of different teams with different interests to give their customers the best possible experience on social while meeting the organisation’s objectives.

For me that means organisations need to create more conversation about social media internally and get each of those teams bought in and working together earlier on.

On the other hand, what do you think the biggest opportunity is for brands on social?

Lots of organisations are only just starting to tap into their potential audiences on social media and so I think the opportunity for many brands is reaching those harder to access people and uncovering more needs that can be met by social media.

Like some police forces who’ve uncovered unreported historic crimes because they’ve opened up social media as a channel that the public can contact them on when they otherwise wouldn’t have!

For anyone thinking about buying a social media management tool what advice would you give them?

Before you look at any tools speak with your colleagues to really understand what their challenges are and what they need because it’s easy to assume what the issues are and buy a tool that only solves half of the problem.

So my advice would be to fully scope out the problems you’re trying to solve on social media and then use that information to inform your search for a tool, not the other way around!

What do you get up to outside of work?

I play quite a lot of football in a local league and we actually got to play at St.George’s Park earlier this year which was pretty cool. If I’m not playing football I’m likely to be watching it instead or planning a city break to explore a new place.

Finally, can you tell us an interesting fact that few people know about you?

A couple of years ago I did a road trip across the East coast of America and one of the highlights was visiting the Rocky Steps in Philadelphia, of course I had to recreate the picture too!
